An Update: #OHVMgives to Texas

We wanted to update you on our first OHVMgives project geared towards helping Texas recover from the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey.

Just to bring you up to speed, we made the announcement that we chose to help Texas right after our August 2017 Old House Vintage Market.  We had been so caught up in the August market, that when we turned on the news, on Sunday morning, we realized the southern half of Texas was in serious need of…well, everything.

We moved fast to announce not only the OHVMgives program but that we were already hitting the ground running with our first project.  In September 2017, we put several choices of charities to a vote and our followers on Facebook and Instagram chose the Humane Society of Texas.   We also made the announcement that the Old House Vintage Market was pledging HALF the price of a Friday Night Shopping Party ticket in an effort to contribute to the response and recovery of Texas.

We pushed hard to raise awareness of what Texas was going through and of the fact that we were fundraising like mad…and our Customers and Vendors totally came through for us!

Our next step was to choose a specific Humane Society Chapter in Texas.  We purposefully stayed vague by only mentioning the Humane Society of Texas because we knew that when we were finally able to announce our total donation amount after the Holiday Old House Vintage Market was over,  there would be clear Humane Society Chapters that were much more in need than others.  Houston, as it turned out, was in the spotlight and received many donations, while other lesser known towns that were equally as affected by Hurricane Harvey, were rarely mentioned, if at all…and they were drowing in need and had nothing to give.

Because of this need, we chose the Humane Society and Adoption Center of Rockport-Fulton, Texas.  If you look at a map of the cities of Rockport and Fulton, it makes you cringe to think of a hurricane bearing down on those poor towns that are located on a peninsula and protected only by a very skinny San Jose Island.  Needless to say, the good people of the Humane Society and Adoption Center of Rockport-Fulton are angels for working so very hard to protect and evacuate the animals they had in their care leading up to being hit by the monster hurricane and even harder to respond to the overwhelming need caused by the destruction left behind to their cities and even to their own building…still to this day.

We want to give a huge THANK YOU to all of our Customers and Vendors that contributed to the donation of $3,744 to the Humane Society and Adoption Center of Rockport-Fulton and our thoughts and hearts are with Texas in their continued recovery efforts.
